Job summary

Garver’s internship program in Ridgeland, Mississippi invites civil engineering students to join a Bridge Transportation Intern role. You will contribute to the design of steel and reinforced concrete bridges and gain exposure to AASHTO LRFD standards using MicroStation or AutoCAD.

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Read and interpret design codes; communicate effectively; be willing to learn.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and teamwork.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of steel and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Familiarize with AASHTO LRFD and other bridge design standards.
  • Assist in developing plans for bridges using Bentley MicroStation.
  • Visit bridge construction sites to compare plans with field conditions.
  • Read and interpret design codes and communicate findings effectively.

Transportation Intern - Bridge

Internship Description
  • Further develop skills learned in the classroom by participating in the design of steel and reinforced concrete structures
  • Become familiar with AASHTO LRFD and other standards used in bridge design
  • Be an active member in developing plans for all components of bridges (layouts, substructures, superstructures), typically in Bentley’s MicroStation
  • Visit the site of a bridge being actively constructed to strengthen understanding of what is detailed in plans
  • Successful candidate will be able to read and interpret design codes, communicate effectively, and be willing to learn

Work Environment

This is an in-office position; duties and responsibilities are generally performed in an office setting. Occasional travel to offsite locations to perform work and work-related tasks or to attend meetings may be required.
