Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma and ten years of related experience in maintenance, repair, and construction of transportation infrastructure to include lead or supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).
• Knowledge of local government operations, transportation related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; reviews timesheets; counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with performance appraisals; directs work; acts as liaison between employees and management; trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
• Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities to meet objectives; ensures resources are available; monitors progress; provides reports to management; revises procedures as appropriate.
• Responds to road construction emergencies and work-related accidents.
• Plans, budgets, and schedules maintenance and construction for County-maintained roads, bridges, retention ponds, and related infrastructure; analyzes reports; identifies deficiencies; prioritizes; develops budgets, project phases, and schedules.
• Coordinates and oversees projects with state and regional agencies; approves drawings; coordinates permits; administers contracts; inspects work; presents progress reports.
• Prepares and monitors department budget; prepares cost estimates; develops annual budget requests; reviews expenditures.
• Represents the Department on transportation construction issues; attends meetings; responds to citizen concerns; presents project plans.
• Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, and process data; communicates with supervisor, staff, contractors, and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
