Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks an Employee Benefits Assistant for district 7. This paraprofessional role processes benefits transactions for district 7 personnel, ensuring insurance rules are followed and forms are compliant.

Responsibilities include supporting the district’s FMLA coordination, assisting with pre-hire paperwork, and working with Microsoft Office Suite. Some travel and overtime may be required; valid driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of two years of college or approved training program.
• Requires keyboarding accurately at 30 wpm.
• Prefers one year of experience handling employees’ benefit transactions.
• Prefers one year of experience administering Federal and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Responsibilities

• Performs various complex, specialized paraprofessional human resources functions for district 7 including administering the district’s benefit program (health, life, dental, deferred compensation, flexible spending plans).
• Administers various seasonal/temporary employment programs (e.g., winter and summer, Construction, Technician Co‑op program).
• Administers the district’s Veteran’s Affairs on‑job training program.
• Assists district FMLA coordinator.
• Serves as a backup for processing claims and supports the manager in workers' compensation matters.
• Performs other duties as required within the scope of duties enumerated.
