Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks an Employee Benefits Assistant for district 7. The role processes benefits transactions for all district 7 personnel and ensures insurance compliance with state policies.

Responsibilities include managing health, life, and dental plans, deferred compensation, and FMLA coordination. Some overtime and travel may be required; you will support claims processing during the manager’s absence and assist with training and onboarding tasks.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
• Requires skill in keyboarding accurately at 30 wpm.

Responsibilities

• Administers the district’s benefit program (e.g. health, life, and dental insurance, deferred compensation, flexible spending plans).
• Administers various seasonal/temporary employment programs (e.g., winter and summer, Construction, Technician Co‑op program, etc.).
• Administers the district’s Veteran’s Affairs on‑job training program.
• Assists district Federal and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) coordinator.
• Serves as a backup for processing claims and supports the Safety, Claims, and TrainingManager in handling Workers' Compensation matters, including the processing of claims for Workers' Compensation benefits during the manager’s absence.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope for the duties enumerated above.
