Description

Join the Division of Driver Licensing as a Transportation Hearing Officer in Boone County to conduct informal hearings regarding driving privileges, including suspensions, probations, or other actions under KRS Chapter 186 and related statutes and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct informal hearings for individuals with 12 or more points, or those convicted of racing or speeding 26 mph over the limit. Decide on probation or suspension of licenses and testify in court as a Record Custodian when subpoenaed.
  • Research and interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies to determine driver eligibility using KDLIS; process fees for various driver-related services.
  • Review documents for non-US citizens, verify eligibility via SAVE, and process credentials through KDLIS.
  • Prepare and submit activity reports, fee receipts, and other operational records; assist in reconciliation of daily collections; supervise in the absence of the supervisor.
Skills and Experience
  • Ability to interpret records in KDLIS and process credentials.
  • Knowledge of laws and statutes related to driver licensing.
  • Experience in conducting hearings in a legal and fair manner.
  • Experience in fee collection, reconciliation, and report creation.
Qualifications
  • Experience with hearings, court proceedings, and identity verification.
  • Experience in money handling and customer service.
  • Experience with record analysis and data management systems.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service and train subordinates.

Additional details: Minimal physical activity involved; some travel required.

Education & Experience

Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor's degree is required.

Four years of administrative, research, law enforcement, or investigative experience are required. A law degree can substitute for experience, and additional experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements

Must hold a valid driver’s license at employment and maintain any required licenses or certifications.

Working Conditions & Probation

Work primarily in an office or court setting; some travel required. Initial and promotional probation period of 6 months.
