Job summary

Randstad USA is seeking a Carrier Sales Representative specializing in Flatbed, OOG, and Oversized Freight to source, negotiate, and secure specialized carrier capacity.

You will act as the operational bridge between motor carriers and internal account managers, ensuring safe, compliant movements of heavy equipment and materials. The role requires 1–3+ years in carrier sales and a strong knowledge of open-deck equipment.

Qualifications

• 7 years of carrier sales or freight brokerage experience in flatbed/heavy-haul.
• Strong knowledge of trailer specs and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
• Excellent negotiation and phone/communication skills.
• Proficiency with TMS platforms and freight quoting tools.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Carrier Sales Representative specializing in Flatbed, Out-of-Gauge (OOG), and Oversized Freight. In this role, you will source, negotiate, and secure specialized carrier capacity for complex, high-value freight. You will serve as the operational bridge between specialized motor carriers and internal account managers, ensuring heavy machinery, industrial equipment, and structural materials are moved safely and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Capacity Sourcing: Prospect, vet, and onboard specialized flatbed, step-deck, removable gooseneck (RGN), and heavy-haul motor carriers.
• Rate Negotiation: Negotiate spot-market and lane-dedicated rates with carriers to maximize margin while maintaining service standards.
• Specialized Permitting & Compliance: Coordinate state route permits, police/civil escorts (pilot cars), curfew restrictions, and axle weight requirements for oversized/OOG moves.
• Execution & Tracking: Manage shipments from dispatch to drop-off, tracking driver movement, handling check calls, and proactively mitigating delays or routing issues.
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain , long-term partnerships with specialized specialized open-deck carriers and owner-operators.
• Market Expertise: Monitor capacity trends, seasonal fluctuations, and equipment availability across key specialized equipment types (Standard Flatbed, Stepdeck, Double Drop, RGN, Multi-Axle).

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 1–3+ years of carrier sales or freight brokerage experience within a 3PL, with direct exposure to flatbed, open-deck, or heavy haul/oversized logistics.
• Technical Knowledge:understanding of trailer specifications (deck height, weight limits, loading configurations) and DOT/FMCSA dimensional regulations.
• Communication: Exceptional phone presence and high-volume negotiation skills.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to thrive under pressure when dealing with routing changes, bad weather, or permit delays.
• Tech Literacy: Proficiency with TMS platforms (DAT, Truckstop, McLeod, Rose Rocket, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

• Established network of specialized flatbed and heavy-haul carrier contacts.
• Familiarity with state-by-state oversize permit ordering processes and superload requirements.
