Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a certified inspector to perform inspections on road and bridge construction projects. The candidate must hold multiple SCDOT/ACI/SCDES certifications or equivalent and be able to document activities and test materials per specifications.

This position may require travel, overtime, and work in various weather conditions. A high school diploma and two years of related experience are required or an approved equivalence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and two years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience, or an approved equivalence.
• Experience performing inspections on road and bridge construction projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections on road and bridge construction projects.
• Document daily construction activities and field measurements on standard forms and diaries.
• Sample and perform field tests on asphalt, concrete, and soil for specifications compliance.
• Monitor work zones with regular inspections and weekly reports.
• Perform survey duties using survey instruments and test equipment.
• Assist in training and development of construction inspectors.
