Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a certified inspector for road and bridge projects. You will document field activities, perform tests on asphalt, concrete and soil, and monitor work zones. Travel and overtime may be required for emergencies.

Requires high school diploma and 2+ years related experience; Technician Certification may substitute for up to six months of related work. Lifts up to 50 lbs and outdoor/variable conditions are expected.

Qualifications

• Must hold multiple inspector certifications (at least four listed) to qualify.
• Experience documenting field activities on standard inspection forms and diaries.
• Ability to perform field tests on asphalt, concrete, and soil to specs.
• Travel and overtime may be required for emergencies or weather events.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections on road and bridge projects as a certified inspector.
• Document daily construction activities and field measurements on forms and diaries.
• Sample and test materials for compliance with specs (asphalt, concrete, soil).
• Monitor work zones as a Level 2 Work Zone inspector and aid RCE in projects.
• Assist in survey duties using instruments and test equipment to establish lines/grades.
• Support strip map maintenance projects and CBES entries; assist training of inspectors.
