Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a qualified Inspector to ensure contractor compliance with contract requirements and specifications on assigned projects. You will assist project managers, coordinate work between contractors and the Department, and compile daily reports and records according to policy.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management or an approved equivalent, and may require travel,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
• Ability to coordinate contractor work and compile reports per policy.
• willingness to travel and work varied hours including emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspection duties and ensures contractors follow contract requirements and specs.
• Assists project managers in daily construction decisions on assigned projects.
• Coordinates work between contractors and the Department to ensure progress.
• Collects and compiles data for daily diaries and construction reports.
• Assists with sampling/testing of materials per Department specs.
• May be required to work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
