Job summary

The Bamberg Construction Unit of the South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a construction inspector assistant to support site inspections under limited supervision on projects involving thermoplastic raised pavement markers, guardrails and related markings.

You will keep diaries and field notes, collect material samples, assist certified inspectors, and perform entry of sample information to generate IDs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or approved acceptable equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in construction inspections under limited supervision on projects such as thermoplastic markers, guardrail, and other pavement markings.
• Keeps diaries and field notes and completes routine forms on the Director of Construction site.
• Assists certified inspectors in obtaining necessary construction samples and entering sample information into AASHTOWare Project to generate sample IDs.
• Gains experience toward becoming a certified inspector in various construction disciplines.
• Performs related administrative duties as directed by supervisor.
• Assists in traffic and erosion control inspections as part of developing inspector certification.
