Job summary

The Bamberg Construction Unit of the South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Construction Inspector Assistant to support project inspections and sampling on pavement markers, guardrails, and related work. You will maintain diaries, collect material samples, enter data into AASHTOWare Project, and assist certified inspectors under supervision.

The role may require travel and outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform outdoors in varying weather.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Must follow project plans and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in construction inspections under limited supervision on projects.
• Keep diaries and field notes and complete routine forms.
• Assist certified inspectors in obtaining material samples and entering data into AASHTOWare Project.
• Perform some tests under direct supervision.
• Assist in administrative duties and in traffic and erosion control inspections.
