Job summary

The Texas Department of Transportation Corpus Christi District is seeking an Engineering Assistant I or II to contribute to the design and construction of highway projects, including roadway reconstruction, bridge work, and traffic signal upgrades. This role offers a foundation in transportation engineering within public infrastructure.

Engineers at the I level prepare for licensing, with duties expanding at II level to advanced design, data collection, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science sufficient for hire.
• Substitutions for all levels include higher degrees—Master's or Doctoral in the same discipline may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design and construction of highway projects.
• Perform construction inspection and material sampling/testing.
• Assist with contract administration for construction and maintenance projects.
• Participate in Career Development for Engineering Assistants program.
• Work with licensed engineers to ensure final project approvals.
• Collaborate with local government representatives and contractors.
