Baxter & Woodman in Peoria, IL is seeking a Transportation Engineer III to design and manage highway projects and oversee field activities for state, county, and local agencies.

You will collaborate with multiple disciplines across offices, apply OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D, and support business development while delivering high-quality civil infrastructure solutions in a team-first environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering required.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois or ability to acquire within 6 months.
• 5+ years of relevant municipal or highway project experience.
• Knowledge of OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Responsibilities

• Prepare/complete engineering plans and specs using IDOT standards.
• Manage Federal Aid projects for diverse clients.
• Lead roadway, underground utilities, drainage, traffic, and infrastructure studies.
• Coordinate with clients, inspectors, and contractors; travel as needed.
• Assist with business development and client management when possible.
• Provide on-site observations of work, repairs, and tests.

About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Transportation Engineer III in our Peoria, IL office. This position will primarily consist of design engineering efforts on a variety of transportation projects and field presence for State, County, and Local Agencies. This team‑orientated position will include working with Baxter & Woodman’s diverse disciplines and offices within the transportation and construction fields.

What your day‑to‑day will look like

• Manage/Complete engineering plans and specifications production using IDOT Standards.
• Complete Federal Aid projects for a variety of clients.
• Lead a variety of projects and study types including roadway, underground utility, drainage, traffic, and infrastructure improvements.
• Complete general civil engineering services for municipal, county and state clients.
• Assist with business development and client management opportunities for transportation and infrastructure projects is preferred but not required.
• Coordinate construction activities with clients, inspectors, contractors and public agencies.
• Conduct on‑site observation of work, repairs, and tests as needed.

Education/Certification Requirements

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois (or ability to acquire within 6 mos.)

Must‑haves, what you will bring

• 5+ years of relevant experience with municipal or highway agency transportation projects.
• Knowledge of OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil 3D.
• Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman’s service area (own transportation).
• Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
• Work within a team‑first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
