Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation's Fort Worth District is seeking a Transportation Engineer II or III to manage active highway construction, interface with the public and officials, and deliver major projects in the region.

Requires a Bachelor's in engineering, 5 years (TE II) or 6+ years (TE III) of related experience, and a Professional Engineer license. Pre-employment safety and drug testing are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
• 5 years engineering/transportation engineering experience; graduate study can substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Licensed Professional Engineer; ability/in process to obtain Texas licensure within 6 months if already licensed in another state.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex transportation engineering work in planning, project development and design, construction, and operations.
• Evaluate project plans and schedules to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
• Monitor consultants' progress, review invoices, and manage contract documents.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards, and guidelines.
• Coordinate with public officials and private entities; communicate project status and priorities.

Experience

Transportation Engineer II:

Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Statistical analysis methodologies and reporting procedures
• Standards and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures
• Construction engineering policies and procedures
• Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction
• Utilities such as water and electrical services
• Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
• Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects.
• Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
• Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience

Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Engineer III: 6 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Licensed Prof Engineer
• Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate
• Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

• Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
• Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
• Employee may be contacted during off‑duty hours to see if he or she can report to work for emergency conditions. Must report with one hour.
• This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre‑employment physical.
• Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking for a Design‑Build Engineer (Transportation Engineer II or III) based in Fort Worth, TX to work on Alternative Delivery projects in the region. This position will provide you with the opportunity to assist with managing active heavy‑highway construction, while interfacing with the public and governmental entities, managing consultant resources, reviewing construction schedules, providing oversight of construction work, and many other activities required to deliver a major project.

• Transportation Engineer III: (B26) $76,530 - $129,430
