Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer I/II/III for the Odessa District to lead the development and delivery of diverse transportation projects, from concept through PS&E, ensuring safety, mobility, and connectivity across the region.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science; higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
• Experience: Four or more years in engineering, transportation engineering, or related field for Engineer I; five years for II; six years for III.
• Licenses: Valid driver’s license; Licensed Professional Engineer; if underwater bridge inspections, Open Water Diver; NICET/Bridge Safety certs within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

Are you ready to help shape the future of transportation in West Texas? The Odessa District Design Engineer is seeking a Transportation Engineer to lead the development and delivery of transportation projects that improve safety, mobility, and connectivity across the region.

This position offers the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of projects from concept through PS&E delivery, including roadway safety improvements, mobility enhancements, intersection designs, bridge replacements, roadway rehab, widening, and interchange projects.

As a key member you will serve as both a technical leader and project manager, overseeing the development and review of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E), coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and consultants, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and in compliance with TxDOT standards and federal requirements.

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

• Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies.
• Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
• Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
• Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
• May serve as a lead worker and the related task
• Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers.
• Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.

Minimum Qualifications:

Transportation Engineer I/II/III Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Transportation Engineer I Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Licensed Prof Engineer*
• If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.
• For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire.

*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
