Job summary

BETA Group, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Engineer to join our Rhode Island team. You will work on highway improvements, drainage, and multimodal projects across New England, collaborating with seasoned engineers and project managers from day one.

The Lincoln, RI office is the preferred location with a hybrid schedule, allowing remote work up to 2 days per week. We offer ESOP ownership, competitive benefits, and opportunities to advance into senior technical and project management roles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • 4 to 8+ years of highway design and roadway construction experience.
  • EIT certification required; PE preferred.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and ArcGIS/Pro.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with RIDOT/MassDOT/ConnDOT design standards and MUTCD.
  • Experience with RIDEM and CRMC permitting regulations.
  • Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections.
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist planning, design, and delivery of transportation and roadway projects from concept through construction.
  • Prepare roadway and highway designs, including geometric design, grading, drainage, traffic control, ADA improvements, and pavement design.
  • Develop engineering plans, specifications, calculations, technical reports, and other project deliverables.
  • Apply RIDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, and other design standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, surveyors, environmental professionals, and other technical disciplines.
  • Support permitting, agency coordination, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in field investigations, site assessments, inspections, and data collection.
  • Provide technical support during bidding and construction and assist with resolving field and design issues.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accurate, complete, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Attend project meetings and assist with coordination among clients, municipalities, agencies, contractors, and project teams.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and senior engineers to develop solutions and successfully deliver projects.
  • Collaborate with BETA's New England offices to leverage regional expertise and resources.
  • Build technical and project management skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and increasingly complex assignments.
