Job summary

State of Michigan’s Aeronautics team seeks a Project Engineer to oversee and technically review airport development projects across Michigan’s non-primary airports. You will contribute to delivering capital improvements and maintaining a safe statewide transportation system.

The role supports flexible work arrangements, with consideration for remote or alternate schedules as needed. A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required; licensure may substitute for experience per policy.

Qualifications

• Possession of a bachelor's degree in a field of engineering.
• We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor’s degree by December 31, 2026.
• Registered professional engineer license may substitute for 6 months of experience at TE9-12 levels.

This position serves as a Project Engineer within the Office of Aeronautics, supporting the delivery of capital improvement projects at all non-primary airports in Michigan. This position directly contributes to the Office’s mission to develop and maintain a safe, high-quality, statewide transportation system. The primary responsibilities include oversight and technical review of airport development projects for assigned areas.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Experience

Transportation Engineer 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Transportation Engineer 10

One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

Transportation Engineer P11

Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.

Transportation Engineer 12

Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.

Transportation Engineer 9 - 12

Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may besubstituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution mayonly be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
