Job summary

State of Michigan is seeking a Senior Traffic Safety Engineer to lead crash data analysis and hazard reduction within the Transportation Service Center scope. The role focuses on improving road geometry, signing, and pavement markings while coordinating with MDOT regions, Lansing, and FHWA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering required.
  • Civil Engineering degree preferred.

  • Three years of professional engineering experience in transportation systems.
  • Experience equivalent to Transportation Engineer P11 (one year).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license can substitute for 6 months experience.

Job description

This position serves a senior level position responsible for traffic safety engineering for the Transportation Service Center (TSC). The goal of this position is to reduce crashes and crash severity in the TSC area by analyzing crash data, identifying and reducing hazards, improving geometry, and ensuring proper signing and pavement markings. The Traffic Safety Engineer must maintain alignment within the region and with other TSCs, Lansing, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This position requires meeting tight deadlines and resolving issues to ensure the successful implementation and operation of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) services and products.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Transportation Engineer 12 position.

Education

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, preferred.

Experience

Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.

Transportation Engineer 9 - 12

Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may besubstituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution mayonly be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
