This is a senior-level road design engineer responsible for the design and preparation of projects assigned to the region design unit, ensuring conformity to MDOT and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) design standards. This position also assists in providing direction to the region design unit, solves complicated and unusual design problems, prepares reports, estimates, and special provisions, and attends project-related and public meetings.
The "Salary" listed above reflects the range from the minimum to the maximum rate of the Transportation Engineer 12 position.

Possession of a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
At least three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs, equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year at the Transportation Engineer P11 level.
Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may substitute for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution can only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
