Job summary

TCI Transportation seeks an experienced Driver Dispatcher (Night Shift) in San Diego, CA. This hands-on role coordinates daily dispatch, supports drivers, ensures equipment readiness, and maintains safe, efficient operations.

Onsite, with a Thursday–Monday schedule and weekend work, you will load/unload trucks and uphold excellent customer service. The ideal candidate has at least 6 months of verifiable box truck driving experience within the last year, and can work nights and weekends on site.

Qualifications

• This is a hands-on role requiring loading/unloading of trucks.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily dispatch by assigning trips, adjusting driver assignments, reviewing routes and ensuring drivers report for shifts.
• Support and develop drivers through orientations, training, and staffing coordination while enforcing policies.
• Keep equipment ready by coordinating with Rental and Maintenance for services and repairs.
• Maintain organized operations with paperwork, local terminal contact, and safety, cost control, and customer service focus.
• Deliver dependable customer service by clear communication with customers and internal teams.
• Provide hands-on support with loading/unloading and keeping freight moving.
• Prioritize safety and compliance by managing hours of service, audits, and coordination with Safety and HR.

Schedule: Thursday–Monday | Weekends Required
Start Time: Approximately 7:00 PM Daily
Location: San Diego, CA | Onsite — Not Remote

Start time may fluctuate based on business needs.

REQUIRED: Recent, Verifiable Box Truck Driving Experience

You MUST have at least 6 months of verifiable box truck driving experience within the last 12 months to qualify.

This is a mandatory requirement. Dispatch, warehouse, or logistics experience does not substitute for the required box truck driving experience.

Candidates must also be available to work nights and weekends, onsite in San Diego.

TCI Transportation is looking for a dependable, safety-focused Driver Dispatcher to coordinate transportation operations, support our drivers, and help deliver reliable customer service. You’ll work closely with drivers, maintenance teams, customers, and operations leadership to keep trips covered and the operation running smoothly.

This is a hands-on position—not a desk-only role. In addition to dispatch coordination, responsibilities include loading and unloading assigned trucks.

What You’ll Be Doing

Coordinate Daily Dispatch
Assign trips, adjust driver assignments, review routes, and ensure scheduled drivers report for their shifts and assigned duties.

Support & Develop Drivers
Assist with driver orientations, training, and staffing coordination. Reinforce company policies, monitor performance, and organize driver meetings as needed.

Keep Equipment Ready
Partner with Rental and Maintenance to secure equipment and coordinate services and repairs.

Keep Operations Organized
Complete operational paperwork, serve as a local terminal contact, and help maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility. Keep safety, cost control, and customer service at the center of daily decisions.

Deliver Dependable Customer Service
Maintain clear communication with customers and internal teams, address operational concerns, and help meet or exceed customer performance expectations.

Provide Hands-On Support
Load and unload assigned trucks while helping the team keep freight and equipment moving.

Put Safety & Compliance First
Confirm drivers have sufficient available hours for assigned work, assist with electronic log audits, report discrepancies, and coordinate with your manager, Safety, and HR on Hours of Service compliance.

What You Bring

At least 6 months of verifiable box truck driving experience within the last 12 months — REQUIRED.

Availability to work Thursday–Monday, including Saturdays and Sundays, with an approximately 7:00 PM start.

Ability to work onsite in San Diego. This position is not remote.

Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.

Accuracy, attention to detail, and dependable follow-through.

Sound judgment, professional ethics, and respect for confidential information.

Occasional holiday work and local or out-of-state travel may be required to support operations.
