Job summary

The School District of Lee County, Fort Myers, FL, is seeking a Dispatcher for Transportation Services to manage bus dispatch, route coordination, and communications with drivers and schools. This role requires strong knowledge of local routes, regulations, and privacy laws, along with basic computer skills and the ability to handle high call volumes.

Ideal candidates have an associate degree and/or relevant education or experience, and must be able to work afternoon shifts.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the geographic area.
• Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
• Basic computer skills including familiarity with office equipment, routing software or databases.
• Ability to read maps and routes.
• Ability to handle a high volume of communications in a short amount of time.
• Ability to work the afternoon and PM shift.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch bus drivers and vehicles for regular transportation routes, special trips and extra-duty transportation.
• Communicate schedule or route changes, delays, or special instructions to drivers, schools, coaches, or other district staff.
• Monitor bus routes for timely departures and arrivals; track status of buses during routes.
• Assist supervisors and other dispatchers with coordination of substitute drivers or relief assignments when regular drivers are unavailable.
• Obtain and relay factual information and assist bus operators in emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate transportation and trip records: logs, driver assignments, logs, etc.
• Comply with governmental, department, and Board regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Forward route and safety concerns to appropriate leadership.
• Assist with general office duties and transportation-department clerical work.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
