Job summary

Greenman-Pedersen Inc. seeks a Transportation Engineer to join our Raleigh, NC area offices. You will prepare roadway design plans, develop design criteria, and coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines on transportation projects across the United States.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation or roadway design.
  • Working knowledge of roadway design standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, NCDOT preferred).
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD (OpenRoads or Civil 3D a plus).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare roadway and transportation design plans from concept through final design.
  • Develop design criteria, calculations, technical memoranda, and construction documents.
  • Perform geometric design, roadway alignments, profiles, and cross sections.
  • Coordinate with project managers, planners, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Apply applicable standards and guidelines (AASHTO, MUTCD, NCDOT, and local agency criteria).
  • Assist with quantity calculations, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Support agency coordination and respond to review comments.
  • Mentor junior staff as appropriate and contribute to team development.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation or roadway design (flexible based on level)
  • Working knowledge of roadway design standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, NCDOT preferred)
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD (OpenRoads or Civil 3D a plus)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
  • Experience working on NCDOT or municipal transportation projects
  • Familiarity with multimodal design, safety improvements, or complete streets
Requirements
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
