Job summary

Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) seeks an experienced Highway Design Engineer for its Transportation Group in Mechanicsburg, PA.

The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team on highway and street projects, from concept to final plans, with opportunities for growth. Candidates should have a BS in Civil Engineering (Transportation/Land Development preferred), 10+ years of highway design experience, and familiarity with PennDOT and municipal clients.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering required; focus on Transportation or Land Development preferred.
  • PE license is preferred.
  • Experience with PennDOT and PA municipal clients is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand highway and street geometric design.
  • Lead the design and development of plans, specs, and estimates for transportation projects.
  • Coordinate with PennDOT and PA municipal clients.
  • Develop plans from concept to final alignments, grading, drainage, and utility relocations, including QC/QA checks.
  • Mentor and guide a small design team, managing scope, schedule, and budget.

GPI is seeking a full-time Highway Design Engineer for our growing Transportation Group in Mechanicsburg, PA. Responsibilities
  • Thorough understanding of the geometric design of highways and streets
  • Comfortable taking a lead role in the design and development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates for transportation projects
  • Experience with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and PA municipal clients
  • Ability to develop plans from conceptual design to final horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, grading, drainage design, and utility relocations, including performing the required quality control and quality assurance checks
  • Understanding of construction as it relates to developing temporary traffic control and construction staging plans
  • Experience with leading a small design team through guidance, mentorship and career development, while managing the team's workload with a focus on scope, schedule and budget.
Qualifications
  • 10 plus years of highway engineering experience preferred
  • BS in Civil Engineering required; focus on Transportation or Land Development preferred
  • PE is preferred
  • Experience with PennDOT and/or PA municipal clients is a plus
  • Experience managing and/or mentoring a small design team
  • Proficiency Using MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads
Requirements
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19\" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
