Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Transportation Engineer to draft roadway design plans and review site plans for safety and operations in Arlington, VA. This role involves conducting safety investigations, supporting neighborhood streets programs, and performing traffic analyses to improve mobility and access.

The ideal candidate has strong GIS and CAD skills, professional engineering experience after a bachelor’s degree, and appropriate certifications (EIT/PE).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or related field
  • Significant professional-level engineering experience post-Bachelor’s; or considerable professional-level transportation engineering work experience post-Bachelor’s plus at least one of the required certifications
  • Progressively responsible significant professional-level engineering work experience post-Bachelor’s; or significant professional-level transportation engineering work experience post-Bachelor’s plus at least two of the required certifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for one year of engineering experience
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience investigating transportation operational and safety concerns
  • Experience in GIS programming, coding, manipulation, as well as CAD design and review
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

Responsibilities

  • Drafting roadway design plans (i.e., sign & marking, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, transit stop improvements, and maintenance of traffic)
  • Reviewing site plans to provide technical expertise concerning transportation safety and operations
  • Conducting safety investigations to develop short-term and long-term design alternatives for small scale transportation enhancements to improve safety, mobility, and access
  • Supporting the County’s Neighborhood Complete Streets (NCS) Program by analyzing safety needs, developing technical design drawings, and providing program guidance
  • Performing traffic operational analyses and developing design alternatives for enhancements to the roadway network
  • Communicating with the public by gathering transportation-related data to investigate customer concerns
  • Developing, reviewing and/or evaluating procedural guidelines, technical standards, and policies
