Job summary

Infrastructure Engineering, Inc. seeks a Design Director to lead the Indianapolis Transportation Design Team, manage major projects, and strengthen client relationships with INDOT and municipalities.

You will shape market strategy and collaborate with firm leadership to expand IEI’s Indiana footprint. The role combines technical leadership, project delivery oversight, and business development, requiring a PE license, ~15+ years in civil engineering, and proven ability to win and deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain Indiana PE within six months if licensed elsewhere.
• Ideal candidate will have 15+ years' experience in civil engineering, including 8-10 yrs as a Project Manager with heavy transportation/design experience.
• Demonstrated record of winning and delivering transportation projects in Indiana with INDOT and municipal clients.
• Substantial business development experience within engineering consulting, with client development skills.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, oversee project delivery, and manage complex transportation projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support the Design Team to ensure technically accurate deliverables.
• Promote and implement technologies that drive efficient project delivery.
• Serve as a senior technical resource on transportation projects.
• Ensure PMPs are prepared and followed and QA/QC processes are adhered to.
• Oversee scopes, fees, and schedules for major pursuits and contracts.
• Monitor project performance, budget, and schedule; communicate with clients and leadership.
• Support contract reviews to manage risk and reinforce practices.
• Develop and foster relationships with key clients and agencies to win work.
• Lead or support proposal development and client interviews and marketing efforts.
• Maintain frequent contact with clients to evaluate performance and identify opportunities.
• Participate in industry/community events to elevate IEI visibility.
