Job summary

GFT is hiring a Transportation Construction Inspector (TCI) to join our Construction Services Team in Philadelphia. The role follows a remote work schedule with work mainly on-site, offering a hybrid environment and a strong focus on safety, quality, and timely project delivery.

The successful candidate will perform inspections, review plans and specs, and coordinate with engineers and field staff to ensure high-quality construction compliant with contract requirements.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Measure and calculate quantities.
• Perform quality control testing on highway materials.
• ACI, NICET, and/or NECEPT certifications.
• Associate Degree in Engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
• Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems and learns from peers.

Responsibilities

• Inspect to ensure contractors build a quality construction project.
• Adhere to plans, specifications, standards, and QC plans.
• Comply with overtime requirements.
• Meet with the Project Engineer/Manager/Supervisor daily for instructions.
• Complete PSAs and daily worksheets.
• Request assistance for inspection of materials to ensure contract compliance.
• Participate in daily field huddles with staff.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Perform inspection to assure that contractors build a quality construction project.
• Perform assigned duties to specific activities to assure plans, specifications, standards and Q.C. Plans are adhered to.
• Comply with the District and project specific overtime requirements.
• Meet with the Department Project Engineer/ Manager/ Supervisor or Consultant Manager/ Supervisor daily, or as required, to receive instructions and assignments.
• Complete PSA’s and work sheets daily.
• Request from Manager/ Supervisor assistance for any instruction or assignment in the inspection of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with contract requirements and established standards.
• Participates in daily huddles with field staff.

Education | Experience

• Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or closely related field or
• At least one (1) year minimum experience as a Technical Assistant 2.
• Also considered, two (2) years of transportation construction inspection experience and a High School Diploma or
• Four (4) years of highway/building trades, construction, inspection, or design experience and a High School Diploma will be considered or
• ACI, NICET, and/or NECEPT certifications.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to read and interpret plans and specifications, measure and calculate quantities, and perform quality control testing on highway materials will be considered.
• Associate Degree in Engineering may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
• Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $28.00 - $33.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
