The Department of Transportation's District 2-0 is currently looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Transportation Construction Inspector. In this role, you will undertake various technical responsibilities related to the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects to ensure all work is completed in conformance with approved construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. In this position, you will oversee all aspects of transportation construction activities. Your responsibilities will include verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. You will also be tasked with inspecting various materials, including cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage materials, and all applicable materials, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

You will engage with department personnel, as well as representatives from federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to facilitate the successful management of projects. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining a master diary; performing mathematical calculations; estimating item quantities and project costs; and managing all necessary project documentation, whether manually or electronically. You will also assist in addressing any field issues that may arise.

This position is crucial for maintaining quality assurance throughout the production process, thereby contributing to the overall integrity of the projects undertaken.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Clearfield.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title);
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles);
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work;
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology;
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
