Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Transportation Associate to support its yard operations in Bondurant, IA. You will move trailers, coordinate yard activities, and train others while ensuring safety and on-time trailer movements.

Role involves operating CMVs, following DOT regulations, and working varied shifts including weekends and nights. Starting pay is competitive, with potential for overtime and CDL support where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
  • Preferred: CDL and completion of Career Choice CDL Course.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations and enforce safety measures for all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon.
  • Perform yard functions to support site operations, internal transportation teams, and carriers to ensure trailers arrive/depart on time with zero defects.
  • Operate CMVs on non-public roads or yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn and comply with DOT regulations and company policies regarding size, weight, route designations, parking, and reporting.
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports and report issues to management.
  • Monitor schedules, track working hours and breaks, and adhere to safety policies and traffic laws.
  • Support the business as a peer trainer or at nearby site locations as needed.
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload trucks using approved equipment.

Description

Are you ready to help Amazon deliver world class service in its transportation operations? Transportation Associates will perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities (such as checking in trailers, traffic flow, internal communications with operations, etc.), conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs (Hostler, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) School, etc.), and operate multiple vehicle types based on business need (including but not limited to hostlers and day cabs) to support Amazon’s transportation network. As a Transportation Associate You Will
  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations. You will follow and enforce safety measures and policies to all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members
  • Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers, as needed, to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and to maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies, procedures of those DOT regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting requirements, break periods, etc.)
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks at appropriate times in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations, adhere to yard safety policies, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions.
  • Support the business on an as needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment (pallet jack, etc.)

The starting pay for this position is listed below, including the base pay rate plus the highest available shift differential which applies depending on the shift you select. As a total compensation company, additional earnings may include shift differentials and overtime pay. Final pay will be based on factors including shift selection and location.
