Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Transportation Associate in Commerce City, CO to move trailers in the yard, coordinate yard activities, and support site operations. You will learn DOT regulations, perform inspections, and help ensure on-time trailer movements with safe practices.

Responsibilities

  • Track hours, breaks, and adhere to schedules.
  • Serve as peer trainer or support nearby sites.
  • Load/unload a truck using a pallet jack.

Description

Transportation Associates will perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities such as checking in trailers, traffic flow, and internal communications with operations, conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs (Hostler, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) School, etc.), and operate multiple vehicle types based on business need (including but not limited to hostlers and day cabs) to support Amazon’s transportation network.

As a Transportation Associate You Will
  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations. You will follow and enforce safety measures and policies to all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members.
  • Perform various functions within the yard, support site operations teams, internal transportation field teams, and external carriers, as needed, to ensure all trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects and maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Be professionally trained to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non‑public roads or in yard to move trailers to/from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and comply with company policies and procedures of those regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting requirements, break periods, etc.).
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules, track and report working hours and breaks at appropriate times in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations, adhere to yard safety policies, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather/road conditions.
  • Support the business on an as‑needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area.
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment such as a pallet jack.

Basic Qualifications
  • Hold a valid and active driver’s license.
  • High school or equivalent diploma.
  • Age 21 or older with the ability to understand and adhere to all job requirements and safety guidelines in English.
  • Can lift up to 49 pounds, stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and frequently push, pull, squat, bend, reach, and ascend/descend stairs.
  • Work 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.
  • Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
  • Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.
  • A valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Completion of Career Choice Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Course.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
  • Ability to follow and enforce safety measures and policies to all who operate vehicles on behalf of Amazon and those who enter the yard, including vendors and senior team members.
  • A commitment to build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and outside vendors.

The starting pay for this position is described below, including the base pay rate plus the highest available shift differential, which may apply depending on the shift you select. As a total compensation company, additional earnings may include shift differentials and overtime pay. Final pay will be based on factors including shift selection and location.
