Responsibilities

• Arrange travel for eligible Veterans to appointments and residence, using laws and regulations to distinguish/ensure reimbursements are legitimate.
• Perform regular reconciliations of accounts and adjust account balances.
• Determine method of payment for authorized and unauthorized claims submitted for consideration.
• Balance, reconcile, and adjust invoices for payment.
• Forward all invoices certified for payment and explain disposition of unauthorized claims as needed.
• Explain regulations and guidelines to beneficiaries.
• Communicate with patients and external personnel to obtain services; respond to client requests and resolve complaints.

The Transportation Assistant - Beneficiary Travel - acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs. The Transportation Assistant in this position will be required to have an overall knowledge of the organization, its mission, goals and impact on patients, personnel, community, and the nation.

Key Responsibilities

The Transportation Assistant will serve as a primary contact for Veterans, doctors, nurses and administrative staff to arrange travel for eligible Veterans to appointments and residence when appropriate, using laws and regulations to distinguish/ensure reimbursements are legitimate or if fraudulent activity is being conducted by the beneficiary.

The Transportation Assistant must also possess some knowledge of clinical services, related software, and programs as they relate to computing and office automation. Major duties include but are not limited to: Performing regular reconciliations of accounts and adjusting account balances. Responsible for determining method of payment for authorized and unauthorized claims submitted for consideration. Responsible for balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment.

Reconciling vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certifications for payment. Determining eligibility for the program. Responsible for forwarding all invoices certified for payment. Writing and/or selecting appropriate letters explaining disposition of unauthorized claims. Explaining regulations and guidelines to beneficiaries.

Communicating and interacting with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation. Conducting regular and recurring contact with personnel external to the agency for the obtainment of services. Responding to client requests and seeks resolution of family/patient/employee complaints. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
