Job summary

OHSU in Portland is seeking a Level I Patient Transporter to move medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies across the hospital campus. You will operate elevators and assist with patient movement as part of a dedicated transport team.

This essential role supports safe, timely patient care and facility operations, delivering to nursing units, clinics, operating rooms and labs while following safety and infection-control protocols.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to safely transfer equipment, supplies, specimens and blood.
  • Must be trained in transportation of bio-hazardous items within 90 days of hire.

  • Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement. Relieves elevator operators for breaks.
  • Cleans and disinfects transportation medical equipment: stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, Hover Matts, pillows and utility transport carts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is the first level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the higher level by the absence of responsibility for the transportation of patients. This position is responsible for transporting medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment. This transporting work is completed using the Teletracking transportation software and the current technology used to obtain transportation jobs.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment. These locations are, but not limited to nursing units, diagnostic areas, clinics, exam rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, morgue or offices.
  • Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement. Relieves elevator operators for breaks.
  • Cleans and disinfects transportation medical equipment: stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, Hover Matts, pillows and utility transport carts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to safely transfer equipment, supplies, specimens and blood.
  • Must be responsible and properly trained in the transportation of bio-hazardous items within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Healthcare or hospital experience.
  • Experience in safe transporting of specimens, blood products, equipment and supplies
Additional Details
  • Risk of exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness.
  • Risk of exposure to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations.
  • Risk of exposure to frustrated or violent patients
  • PPE when necessary: gloves, mask, gown, bonnet, and shoe covers
