Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University is hiring for a Transportation Aide 2 to support patient movement across hospital units. The role includes transporting patients by wheelchair and stretcher, moving equipment and supplies, and operating elevators to facilitate safe care delivery.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED, BLS, and in-house biohazard training, with strong communication and customer service skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to and from various locations including nursing units, diagnostics, pre-op, life flight pad and morgue.
  • Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies within the OHSU environment.
  • Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement and relieves elevator attendants for breaks.
  • Cleans and disinfects transportation equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, HoverMatts, pillows and carts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by the responsibility for performing a wide variety of assignments and the assignment of more complex duties, including the transfer and transportation of patients. This position is also responsible for performing all functions of the lower level, Transportation Aide 1 responsibilities. All transport work is completed using the Teletracking transportation software and the current technology used to obtain transportation jobs.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to and from various locations include, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostics, pre-op, life flight pad and morgue. Transfer patients to and from stretcher, hospital bed, exam table and wheelchair using transportation-assist devices such as Hovermatts, Slipps, slider boards and backboards.
  • Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment. These locations are, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostic areas, clinics, exam rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, morgue or offices.
  • Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement. Relieves elevator attendants for breaks.
  • Cleans and disinfects transportation medical equipment: stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, HoverMatts, pillows and utility transport carts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Complete in-house training for biohazardous items
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Healthcare or hospital experience.
  • Experience in safe transporting of patients, specimens, blood products, equipment and supplies

  • Risk of exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness.
  • Risk of exposure to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations.
