Job summary

Optomi is seeking a Sr. Transport Planning Engineer to support critical SONET/DWDM consolidation and migration initiatives for a national backbone network. You will create engineering packages, perform capacity analysis, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to modernize telecom infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in transport planning or telecom network engineering, strong tool experience, and proven leadership in planning efforts with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of transport planning or telecommunications network engineering experience.
• Strong experience with SONET transport planning, capacity management, and network migrations.
• Familiar with DWDM, optical transport networks, and telecom engineering principles.
• Experience developing implementation-ready engineering and planning packages.
• Familiarity with transport engineering tools such as TIRKS, CNDC ASPEN Portal, LCAM, MetaSolv, Fireworks, and CORE.

Responsibilities

• Develop transport network growth, capacity, and migration plans for SONET consolidation.
• Perform capacity forecasting, network analysis, and solution development across core/metro networks.
• Create implementation-ready planning packages for design and field teams.
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, and stakeholders to modernize networks.
• Manage budgets, capital funding requests, and planning documentation per telecom standards.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
• Previous large carrier experience is highly preferred

• Manage project budgets, capital funding requests, and planning documentation while ensuring compliance with telecommunications standards
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams
