Job summary

Optomi, in partnership with a leading client, is seeking a Senior Transport Planning Engineer (Planning Engineer III) to develop growth, capacity, and evolution plans for a national core transport network and its supporting metro networks.

You will create implementation-ready planning packages for design and field engineering teams, manage project funding and budgets, and support network modernization initiatives.

Qualifications

• End-to-end network planning experience
• Hands-on SONET/Ethernet/DWDM knowledge
• Experience with optical transport networks and data center layouts
• Capacity planning and forecasting experience
• Knowledge of central office infrastructure and OSP engineering
• Telecommunications network design and transport engineering principles
• Familiarity with planning/engineering tools: TIRKS, Aspen Portal, LCAM, MetaSolv, Fireworks, CORE
• Proficiency with Excel/PowerPoint/Word/Outlook/Teams
• Self-starting, proactive, and able to drive work with minimal direction

Responsibilities

• Plan SONET network capacity and manage growth across core backbone and metro networks
• Develop implementation-ready engineering packages for design and field teams
• Manage capital and expense budgets and project funding
• Analyze network data and forecast capacity needs
• Coordinate and engage stakeholders across engineering and operations
• Mentor and train junior engineers and provide technical leadership
• Ensure compliance with telecommunications regulations and standards
