Job summary

Electra Hospital District is seeking a Transport Assistant to safely move residents to appointments, activities, and other destinations within or outside the facility. You will collaborate with nursing staff to support residents’ well‑being and mobility during transit.

The role emphasizes patient care, accurate recordkeeping, and adherence to infection control protocols while providing compassionate, professional support to residents and families.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents during transport.
• Accompany residents to and from medical appointments, therapy sessions, activities, and other scheduled destinations.
• Assist residents getting into and out of vehicles or transport equipment, ensuring they are secure and comfortable.
• Observe residents for signs of distress or discomfort during transport and report concerns.
• Assist with the use of mobility aids.
• Follow safety and infection control protocols including PPE when necessary.
• Record details of each transport including times, routes, and incidents.
• Work with nurses and healthcare professionals to meet residents' transportation needs with care and professionalism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist residents during transport.
• Accompany residents to and from medical appointments, therapy sessions, activities, and other scheduled destinations.
• Assist residents getting into and out of vehicles or transport equipment, ensuring that they are secure and comfortable during transit.
• Observe residents for any signs of distress or discomfort during transport and promptly report any concerns to medical staff.
• Assist with an ensure the proper use of mobility aids.
• Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment when necessary.
• Record pertinent details related to each transport, including times, routes, and any incidents that occur during transit.
• Work alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the transportation needs of each resident are met with proper care and professionalism.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

EXPERIENCE: One year experience in medical field preferred.

PERSONAL JOB-RELATED SKILLS: Knowledge of patient care services. Effective written and oral communication skills. Familiar with operating computers and the ability to utilize computer systems.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties of the position require moderate periods of walking and standing. Pushing, pulling, reaching, and bending, when involved in patient care. Lifting up to 52 pounds and occasional heavy lifting in supporting patients that may suddenly become weak or helpless. The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
