Job summary

VELCO Vermont Electric Power Company, Inc. is seeking a Planning Engineer to develop and analyze transmission system improvement scenarios within the New England regional network.

You will evaluate operation, reliability and efficiency impacts and guide technical studies across teams. The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering with 2–7 years in electrical system planning; PowerWorld, PSLF or PSS/E experience; and programming skills in C, Python or Visual Basic.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering; experience in electrical system planning applications.
• Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related credential preferred.
• Experience with transmission planning tools and analysis methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop and analyze transmission system improvement scenarios to enhance transfer capability.
• Integrate generation, demand and storage; reduce losses; and improve reliability and power quality.
• Guide others in performing technical analyses of the transmission system.
• Communicate clearly with engineers, management, utilities, ISO-NE, NYISO, regulators and the public.
• Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to develop non-transmission alternatives when appropriate.
