Job summary

Northwestern Energy seeks a South Dakota Transmission Planning Engineer to lead planning work for the SD transmission system and coordinate with SPP stakeholders. The role involves developing base cases, conducting power flow and stability studies, and recommending system improvements to support reliability and economic needs.

Entry-level to senior positions are available, with ranges for starting pay and a strong emphasis on PE licensure. Travel up to 15% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required for all levels, preference for Electrical Engineering.
• 2-3+ years of relevant experience in transmission planning (II).
• 5-7+ years of relevant experience (III).
• 8-10+ years of experience for Sr. role; PE licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Northwestern Energy's primary transmission planning representative for SPP planning processes.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies to develop transmission solutions.
• Develop base cases and conduct transmission system studies using power flow and stability tools.
• Lead participation in SPP planning committees and coordinate planning with SPP and neighboring owners.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and regulators.
