Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp in Akron, OH is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to oversee planning across FE's transmission and subtransmission systems. The role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable operation, and coordinating studies for generation and load interconnections with input from regional bodies.

The engineer will help develop capital budgets, work with Operations during storms, and contribute to regulatory and industry processes (NERC, RFC, PJM). Travel within the FE system may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
• Acceptable alternatives: PE license or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from ABET accredited institution or a non-ABET degree plus an advanced Electrical Engineering degree from ABET program.
• A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of Engineering experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and studies to develop transmission and subtransmission projects and budgets.
• Perform timely transmission studies in line with NERC, PJM, and FE criteria.
• Recommend mitigation projects for criteria deficiencies identified in studies.
• Prepare operating solutions when capital projects can't be implemented quickly.
• Develop annual capital budgets and present related cost estimates.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)

PE License or Engineering Technology degree option

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (non-ABET) + advanced Electrical Engineering degree

FE Certificate (preferred)

Minimum 2 years engineering experience
