Job summary

FirstEnergy Service Co. in Ohio is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to oversee planning across the FE transmission system, ensuring safe, reliable operation of lines and substations, and interconnections with generation and load.

The engineer partners with operating companies, utilities, and regional bodies to shape capital projects and planning criteria. The role requires collaboration with NERC/PJM/FE groups, development of regulatory submittals, and potential attendance at industry

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
• Alternative credentials: PE license or ABET-accredited Eng Tech degree or non-ABET Eng degree plus advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
• FE Certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and studies to develop transmission and subtransmission projects, plans, and capital budgets.
• Perform bulk and area transmission studies ensuring compliance with NERC, PJM, FE planning criteria.
• Propose and justify mitigation projects for criteria deficiencies from system studies.
• Develop annual capital budgets and present cost estimates for capital portfolio processes.
• Study connections of new loads, generators, and merchant transmission projects.
• Support Operations Centers during severe weather, high loading, or abnormal events.
• Travel within the FE system and to industry events/meetings as required.
• Prepare submittals for regulatory filings and provide technical testimony when assigned.
