Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to oversee planning across transmission/subtransmission systems in the FE area. The role collaborates with operating companies, utilities, and regulatory bodies to ensure reliable operation and capital portfolio development.

The position requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (ABET) and typically 2+ years of experience, with PE license or equivalent credentials as a strong plus. Onsite work across FE locations is expected.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering is required.
• PE License or equivalent: (1) PE license or (2) B.S. in Eng Tech with ABET accreditation plus an advanced degree; FE Certificate preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and studies to develop transmission and subtransmission projects, plans and budgets.
• Perform studies ensuring compliance with NERC, PJM and FE planning criteria.
• Propose and justify mitigation projects for planning criteria deficiencies.
• Develop annual capital budgets and prepare related presentations.
• Study connections of new loads, generators, and merchant transmission projects.
• Support Operations Centers during severe weather, heavy loading, or abnormal events.
• Communicate system capability for outages and contingency handling.
• Collaborate with industry groups (NERC, RFC, PJM) to advance FE practices.
