Job summary

Puget Sound Energy in Bellevue, WA, is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer II to join our Transmission Planning team. Under limited supervision, you will prepare engineering plans, designs, specifications, and studies to reinforce energy delivery and generation systems.

You will also support safety, compliance with RCW/NERC, and Open Access Tariff documentation. The role emphasizes model development, project justification, and collaboration with internal teams and public stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or PE license; WA license preferred or able to obtain.
• 3+ years in planning, design, cost estimating and scheduling.
• Strong organization, documentation and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform studies and analyses to identify transmission system needs and develop infrastructure projects for reliability and performance.
• Develop transmission system models for a 10-year horizon; use PowerWorld or similar tools.
• Interpret codes, standards and guidelines to address system needs; document needs and solutions for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Provide engineering services in construction, operation and maintenance of PSE facilities.
• Ensure compliance with NERC standards applicable to Transmission Planner/Planning Coordinator.
• Document transmission plans in open access tariff context and participate in public meetings.
• Support interconnection studies for resources under state jurisdiction and generator interconnection/FTS studies under FERC/OATT.
• Coordinate with Integrated Resource Planning on renewables integration; mentor engineering staff as needed.
• Assist emergency response and restoration efforts as required.
• May coordinate engineering assistants or contractors; perform other duties.
