Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer for the Expansion Planning Team in Minnesota. You will collaborate with MISO members and industry stakeholders to develop transmission solutions for the MTEP, perform planning studies, and provide technical support across planning initiatives.

Responsibilities include analyses (steady‑state, transient, voltage stability), project reviews for NERC TPL‑001‑4/5 compliance, and mentoring teammates as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
• Experience with transmission planning, expansion planning, or bulk electric system studies.
• Knowledge of NERC standards such as TPL‑001‑4/5 and other planning requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop transmission solutions for the MTEP in collaboration with MISO members and stakeholders.
• Conduct steady‑state, transient, and voltage stability analyses to support reliable system planning.
• Review and assess projects for compliance with NERC standards such as TPL‑001‑4/5 and other planning requirements.
• Provide technical support across planning initiatives and multiple departments.
• Build strong partnerships with MISO members and internal teams during the MTEP planning cycle.
• Take ownership of key NERC compliance responsibilities.
• Continue developing technical expertise while contributing to projects that shape the future of the North American electric grid.
• Improve planning processes and mentor teammates as needed.

Education
