CMC is seeking experienced Transmission Line Engineers to support two large-scale transmission programs for major US electric utilities.
These are fully remote, long-term consulting opportunities supporting the engineering and delivery of high-voltage transmission line projects, including new-build, rebuild, upgrade, and system reinforcement work.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on transmission line design experience and be capable of independently developing and reviewing engineering packages while coordinating with utility engineering, project, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engineering and design for 69kV-500kV transmission line projects
- Develop and maintain transmission line models using PLS-CADD
- Perform structure modeling and analysis using PLS-POLE and/or PLS-TOWER
- Support new-build transmission lines, rebuilds, reconductoring, and system upgrade projects
- Perform conductor selection, sag-tension, clearance, loading, and structural analyses
- Develop plan/profile drawings, structure spotting, and transmission line design packages
- Evaluate existing transmission infrastructure and develop technically sound upgrade solutions.
Technical Review & Engineering Deliverables
- Perform technical and QA/QC reviews of transmission line designs and calculations
- Review PLS models, drawings, specifications, and engineering packages
- Ensure designs comply with NESC, utility standards, and applicable engineering requirements
- Support constructability reviews and resolution of technical design issues
- Develop engineering calculations, specifications, material requirements, and supporting technical documentation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- Professional experience designing high-voltage overhead transmission lines
- Strong hands-on experience with PLS-CADD
- Experience with PLS-POLE and/or PLS-TOWER
- Experience supporting 69kV+ utility transmission projects
- Strong understanding of NESC requirements and utility transmission design standards
- Experience developing and reviewing transmission line engineering packages
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote project environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience supporting 230kV-500kV transmission projects
- Previous experience working directly with major US electric utilities
- Experience across both new-build and rebuild/upgrade transmission programs
- Experience providing senior-level design review, QA/QC, or technical leadership
