Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Transmission Line Design Engineer to join its power delivery team in the Atlanta area. The role supports design and execution of high‑voltage transmission line projects for utilities, renewables, and infrastructure clients across the United States.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in transmission line design, overhead line experience (69kV–500kV), and proficiency with PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE, and PLS‑TOWER, plus solid communication for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of transmission line design experience.
• Experience with overhead transmission line projects.
• Working knowledge of NESC requirements and utility design standards.
• Experience using PLS-CADD and related software.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering and design of overhead transmission lines ranging from 69kV to 500kV.
• Prepare transmission line design packages including plan and profile drawings, structure loading calculations, conductor and hardware selection, and construction documentation.
• Conduct line routing studies, clearance evaluations, and constructability reviews.
• Utilize industry-standard software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER for transmission line analysis and design.
• Develop engineering calculations related to conductor sag and tension, structure spotting, and structural loading.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, environmental teams, survey crews, and permitting groups.
• Support cost estimates, project schedules, and technical proposals.
• Review and ensure compliance with applicable utility standards, NESC requirements, and industry best practices.
• Participate in design reviews and provide engineering support during construction and commissioning activities.

This position offers the opportunity to support the design and execution of high-voltage transmission line projects for utility, renewable energy, and infrastructure clients across the United States.

The ideal candidate will have experience performing transmission line engineering and design activities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting projects from conceptual design through construction.

Responsibilities:

• 3+ years of transmission line design experience.
• Experience with overhead transmission line projects.
• Working knowledge of NESC requirements and utility design standards.
• Experience using PLS-CADD and related transmission line design software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment in the Atlanta, GA area.

Preferred

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• Experience designing transmission lines for investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, or engineering consulting firms.
• Familiarity with foundations, structures, and transmission line construction practices.
• Experience supporting renewable interconnection, substation expansion, or grid modernization projects.
