Job summary

Matchtech Group is seeking a Transmission Engineer for a permanent role in Minneapolis or Duluth. You will design high voltage transmission lines, both underground and overhead, and collaborate across project teams through design and construction phases.

The ideal candidate has a civil engineering background with ABET accreditation, FE exam or related credentials, and strong communication skills. CAD/PLS-CADD proficiency is preferred, with a focus on delivering compliant, budget-conscious

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Alternative: Bachelor's in Civil/related Eng Tech with FE exam.
• Master's degree can substitute for one year of experience.
• Experience in transmission engineering; consulting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural engineering techniques and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Methodical, analytical problem-solving ability.
• Proficiency with MS Office and PLS-CADD.
• Attention to detail and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission design from concept to design completion.
• Modify and review transmission components per project needs.
• Prepare transmission equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Conduct economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance, and grounding calculations.
• Compile calculations for necessary electrical clearances and prepare communications on NERC, FERC, and regional standards.
• Apply strong knowledge of transmission engineering/design principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
• Research and compile project-related data, producing studies, reports, and specifications.
• Update drawings using CAD software as needed, based on senior engineer corrections.
• Compile information for client presentations and oversee shop drawing reviews and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for both public and private clients.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Our client, a distinguished entity in the energy sector, is actively seeking a Transmission Engineer specialising in Transmission & Distribution to join their team in Minneapolis or Duluth. This permanent role focuses on delivering exemplary designs for both new projects and redevelopments, encompassing underground and overhead high voltage transmission lines. As a Transmission Engineer, you will collaborate closely with project teams throughout the design and construction phases, adapting plans to suit budget constraints, design considerations, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform transmission design from the conceptual phase through to design completion
• Modify and review transmission components based on project needs as specified by project managers
• Prepare transmission equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program
• Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, paired with successful completion of the FE exam
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering can be substituted for one year of experience
• Experience in transmission engineering, with consulting experience strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedural standards
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in quantitative problem-solving
• Proficiency in computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite and PLS-CADD
• Strong attention to detail and demonstrated skills in facilitation, team building, collaboration, organisation, and problem-solving
