Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hollings Cancer Center Translational Science Laboratory Shared Resource is seeking a Research Specialist III to operate and maintain core instruments, train users, and oversee daily core activities. The role involves executing complex workflows for sequencing, ddPCR, and spatial profiling, while documenting results and improving standard workflows.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or related field and two years advanced journel-level work experience in a clinical or research setting.
Experience with NGS and ddPCR is a plus.
Good understanding of genomics and molecular biology is required.
Excellent troubleshooting and written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Performs automated nucleic acid extraction, library prep for single-cell sequencing and RNA-Seq; runs ddPCR, 10X Spatial Transcriptomics, Nanostring DSP; documents procedures and results; updates core management platform; maintains notebooks and data.
Trains instrument users; develops new assay capabilities; oversees independent projects and provides literature guidance.
Tracks and processes samples; maintains SOPs and databases; prepares service invoices; reports progress to management.
Supports special projects and ensures timely completion.
