Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Research Assistant I to support translational cancer research in the GI department. You will perform molecular biology experiments, manage tissues, cultures, and data, and contribute to animal model studies in a collaborative environment.

The role offers hands-on lab work, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth, with Houston onsite work and a day shift schedule.

Qualifications

  • Foundational laboratory knowledge in molecular biology, tissue culture, and data management.
  • Interest in cancer research and ability to learn new techniques.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out molecular biology and genetics experiments.
  • Extract DNA from biological samples.
  • Extract RNA from biological samples.
  • Run gel electrophoresis experiments.
  • Prepare laboratory buffers and reagents.
  • Maintain tissue cultures.
  • Maintain 3D organoid cultures.
  • Maintain immune cell cultures.
  • Work with and help maintain a microfluidics device.
  • Perform immune cell-tumor co-culture assays.
  • Prepare biological specimens from animal models.
  • Dissect mice for research studies.
  • Fix tissues for histological evaluation.
  • Embed tissues for histological evaluation.
  • Perform immunostaining experiments.
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental data.
  • Maintain detailed records of research protocols.
  • Analyze experimental data using computer applications.
  • Organize research data for reporting and documentation.
  • Plot and present research data.
  • Enter research data into databases as required.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Communicate research results to the supervisor.
  • Report potential experimental issues in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings.
  • Read scientific articles and reference materials.
  • Develop step-by-step written procedures for experiments.
  • Communicate experimental procedures to supervisors and laboratory team members.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workplace.
  • Comply with biohazard safety, radiation safety, and OSHA requirements.
