Job summary

The State of Mississippi, through the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services, is hiring a Transition Rehabilitation Specialist I in Oktibbeha County. This full-time role focuses on helping students transition from school to the community by planning and coordinating employment pathways.

You will assess needs, develop individualized plans, and collaborate with schools and community partners to support successful adult placement.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of counseling techniques, vocational assessment, job placement and interviewing techniques, and community resources.
• Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.
• Excellent communication, creativity, problem-solving, evaluation of services and time management skills; ability to be flexible, handle multiple tasks, maintain a professional demeanor, and show empathy.
• Willingness to obtain CRC certification maintenance; or willingness to work toward CRC eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Counseling and guiding individuals with disabilities to assist them in achieving employment outcomes.
• Analyzes and interprets educational, social, medical, psychological and vocational information to determine aspirations and abilities.
• Conducts diagnostic interviews to aid in career decisions.
• Determines appropriate referrals to agencies and community partners.
• Completes a comprehensive assessment for each applicant and VR consumer.
• Determines consumer eligibility and need for VR services; ensures services are appropriate.
• Develops a rehabilitation plan aligned with consumer goals.
• Follow-up to ensure timely provision of services and progress toward IPE or employment.
• Authorizes expenditures for goods and services; prepares case reports.
• Participates in job development and placement programs; maintains community referrals.
• Maintains records and coordinates with schools and hospital partners.
• Explores benefits and monitors progress; ensures documentation and reporting.
