Job summary

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) offers a summer internship through the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD). The program exposes students to patrol operations, community engagement, and specialized units across MD, DC, and VA.

Interns rotate to departments based on their major and are guided by executives or designees. Assignments are temporary up to 13 weeks, designed to provide practical transit industry experience.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent; attending an accredited college/university.
• Intern must be enrolled and pursuing a degree aligned with the internship.
• Must have completed freshman year and be entering sophomore year.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.
• Internship may require favorable prior performance to qualify for subsequent summers.

Responsibilities

• Analyze data and input/correct data for reports.
• Prepare management, operations, and technical reports.
• Produce presentations, reports, and data visualizations.
• Identify problems from reports and propose solutions.
• Attend training sessions and participate in department meetings.
• Support teammates and contribute to safety culture.
