Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Transit Planning Intern to join our Chicago team. This internship begins in May 2027 and offers exposure to planning studies, GIS analysis, and data-driven reports on transportation projects.

You will work under supervision to assist with planning studies, data collection, and presentations, developing skills in transit planning and public engagement practices while supporting senior staff.

Qualifications

Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Planning, Urban Design, or related field and at least two years completed.
Preferred MA/MS in related field.
Previous internship or co-op experience.
Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills.

Responsibilities

Plan and support transportation projects with supervision.
Assist planning studies and reports for plans and programs.
Collect statistics and prepare reports/maps (census, land use, crashes, assets).
Use GIS to analyze data and prepare maps for reports.
Document and present findings from transportation planning projects.
Research current transportation topics at local, state, and federal levels.
Assist with other duties as assigned by senior staff or PMs.
